Shakos and Capes for sale!

Because of your very generous gifts of time, effort and support, the Mira Costa Marching Mustangs will be able to proudly march in their new uniforms starting in the fall 2008 season!!

The old uniforms are now a piece of “living history”, and many of you have expressed an interest in buying them for memory’s sake. We are donating the old uniforms to an organization that cleans them up and distributes them to less fortunate kids who have no uniforms, but the capes and shakos (hats) are available to purchase, and all your funds go to help support the band program.

Shakos are $20, capes are $20, and the combo (shako and cape) is $30. They make great keepsakes, or you can use them for your next costume party, it’s up to you. For band members who want their own specific hats or capes, we will make an effort to get yours for you, but we cannot guarantee it. Please contact Sylvia to place an order.

Help our band replace its old uniforms

The Mira Costa Marching Mustangs proudly represent our community at events like the Hometown Fair, Manhattan Village Santa Parade, Little League opening day, Hermosa St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and Mira Costa football games. We compete at tournaments all over Southern California, and have placed well against larger and better equipped teams because of our superior musicianship and marching skills.

However, there is an area where we make a poor impression - our uniforms. Though lovingly maintained, they are almost ten years old and visibly deteriorating. Hats are frayed, buttons worn, and pants and tunics have been sewn and re-sewn. Unfortunately there is absolutely NO FUNDING available from the State, District, MBEF, or MBAF for uniforms, even though they have been generous with other needs. This is why the Mira Costa Marching Band needs your support to purchase new uniforms before the Fall 2008 season begins.

The cost to properly outfit over 100 band members is about $50,000. In order to have the uniforms by the start of school this fall, we must place and pay for our order by February 29th, so we are asking for your help NOW. Any amount you can give would be greatly appreciated. We are a nonprofit educational organization, so your contribution is tax deductible.

We have long been active in supporting community events, and representing the South Bay throughout the state. We now ask for your support. You can find more information, a donor form, and a PayPal link below, or you can send a check made payable to MCHS Band Boosters to P.O. Box 741, Manhattan Beach 90266. Please help continue a proud tradition of music education and performance in our local
schools and for our community. Thank you from all of us.

Candy Sales:

Thanks to the many donations from band parents, the candy booth is doing
pretty well. Last Thursday's game was pretty quiet, but we still managed
to make close to $500.00 for the band. This was the weekly budget for
stocking the candy booth in prior years, so our profits margin is really
great since we do not have to spend that cash to restock the booth each
game. We need to continue to get donations. I find that Smart and Final
is the best to buy the candy. This list is the same as the one I have
sent out before. I would ask that parents please not buy KING size candy
bars/packs. Items we are out of: Original flavor Nerds ropes, Sour Punch
packs - pink and green flavors, Razzmatazz strips (they come in a box and
we divide them into baggies) M & M's - plain and peanut, Corn Nuts, TWIX
bars, and Kit Kat Bars.

Thanks again to everyone who has been donating candy and those volunteers
who work the booth with me at the games.
