Mar 2 - upcoming shows announced for Mar 9 and Mar 12.

The Mira Costa Jazz Band will be playing at  Club 705 in Hermosa Beach on March 9th at 6:30 PM! The tunes will include swing, Bossa Novas, foxtrots, funk, Latin jazz, and perhaps a few surprises. The sound quality in this club is excellent, and admission is free! Club 705 is located at 705 Pier Avenue in Hermosa Beach, just west of PCH. Beverages are available, and the club serves very good food at moderate prices. Table reservations can be made at 310-372-9705.

Only a few days later on March 12th, the Concert Band, Jazz Band, and  Wind Ensemble will be playing at the Mira Costa Auditorium. The show is called "From Every Horizon, a New Dawn," and features several pieces inspired by spiritual themes of rebirth and growth. Compositions include works by Johannes Brahms, Frank Ticeli, Norman Dello Joio, and Pat Metheny, and will span moods from joyous to calmly reflective. This music will demand all the skills of each band, and listeners will hear just how good these ensembles have become. The show begins at 7 PM. Admission is five dollars for  adults, free to children and any student with ID card.

2007:

Dec 6: Info on MCBand Holiday Concert posted; Wed. Dec 19, 7:00pm. Tickets $5 at the box office, and students (any student ID), staff, and kids under 3 free.

Nov. 18: MCHS Drumline wins 3rd Place at Moorpark Battle of the Bands; see awards page.

Oct 22: Band alumni mailing list page is now a form; look for new forms throughout our site.

MCHS Band wins 1st Place at Fullerton Festival of Bands!

This past Saturday, our band won 1st Place in Division A at the Fullerton Festival of Bands Invitational Field Show Tournament! Our Color Guard won 3rd Place and the Percussion Section won 5th Place in a field of 15 HS bands. This was their best ever performance performed on a very muddy field! You should be very proud of their level of achievement!

Please congratulate your kids and our outstanding band staff: Band Director - Mr Joel Carlson, Marching Instructor - Manny Coronado, Auxiliary Instructor - Michael Cabrera, and Percussion Instructor - Steve Ordaz.

Many thanks to our hard working Pit Crew, Chaperones, Uniform Managers, Load Masters, and the many helpers who work behind the scenes to make this event come together! Your efforts are truly appreciated!

Booster Social at El Torito after Homecoming

Next week following the Homecoming Game, the Band Boosters will host a social gathering at El Torritos in Manhattan Beach on Sepulveda. We also
deserve to party afterwards while the kids are at Round Table. Please stop by and have some Chips and Salsa.

Come support your band 12pm-6pm (concert at 5:30pm) at the Mira Costa Band Room and football field!

We will be furnishing fruit snacks at 2pm and will also be serving pizza at 4 pm for the kids. We are looking for 5 people to help out with serving the pizza starting at 3:45 pm. If you're able to lend a hand, please contact Marina Trachy and let her know you will help.

Be sure your kids have sun screen and a good lunch before arriving at school.

Sep 12: Next Boosters meeting is Oct 2; see our calendar. Wednesday Sep 26 is MCHS Band night at Red Robin,, 4pm-10pm. Come to your local Red Robin at the South Bay Galleria mall 4pm-10pm on Wednesday, Sept 26, and bring this flyer and 10% of their proceeds (dine-in only) will go to support your band!

News on photos on Friday Aug 25: We will have the 07-08 Tshirts on Thursday night for distribution Friday morning. So we have moved the casual band picture to Friday morning. We will then deliver the jpeg to football boosters in the afternoon in time to make their program deadline! Band members should wear blue jeans (or long-ish denim shorts/capris) in the photo. They can change back to shorts after the picture. TShirts will also be worn at the picnic performance.
